Long-term activation of immunocompetent cells of the bladder wall as well as case reports of systemic infections some months or years after intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) therapy imply that mycobacteria may persist in the body. Therefore. we investigated the fate of BCG in patients after uncomplicated intravesical instillation therapy.
