A role for the Purkinje system in the development of spontaneous ventricular tachycardia (VT) during acute ischemia has been suspected but not proved. We used a three-dimensional activation mapping system incorporating Purkinje signals to characterize the mechanism and site of origin of spontaneous VT occurring in the first 30 minutes after coronary artery occlusion in a dog model.
