Diabetic nephropathy is associated with increased cardiovascular mortality. This may be contributed to by changes in plasma lipids, fibrinogen and hemorheology. Cardiovascular autonomic dysfunction, which is related to an increased incidence of arrhythmic death, may also play a role.
