M-cells and their lymphoepithelial contacts were studied in a morphological study by using electron microscopy. To get insight into lymphoepithelial interactions and inflammatory processes in the NALT we compared M-cell rich areas (established by electron microscopy) in adenoids and tonsils, with areas lacking M-cells and intraepithelial lymphoid cells. Immunohistochemical techniques were used.
