The usual occurrence of Kaposi's sarcoma in otherwise healthy gay men in North America in the early 1980s was one of the first hints of the HIV epidemic. Kaposi's sarcoma remains a vexing problem. Existing treatments are not wholly satisfactory, but they can control the disease's unsightly appearance and the complications of visceral involvement.
