The purpose of this investigation was to determine the prevalence of bone marrow signal abnormalities in patients referred for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This investigation was done because of prior studies suggesting that condylar marrow signal abnormalities indicate avascular necrosis.
