Experience with the Cummings U-nephrostomy tube for more than 3 years in more than 30 cases has been favorable. Replacement in patients requiring long-term diversion has been necessary every 3 to 4 months because of ingrowth of tissue into the mushroom, causing an obstruction. Insertion of the new Cummings catheter by the technique outlined has been easy and free of complications.
