Evaluation of medical teachers must be related systematically to individualized objectives that are derived from a specific statement of the goals of the medical school. This paper describes the application of management-by-objectives to the problem of assessment of performance of medical teachers. The approach provides for the identification of significant objectives and rates performance in relation to achievement of outcomes rather than of activites.
