Impairment of sphincter function in patients who undergo ileoanal reservoir is usually most severe immediately after ileostomy closure. Therefore, a prospective, randomized trial was undertaken to assess the potential value of preileostomy closure sphincter-strengthening exercises to improve early functional outcome.
