With maintenance azathioprine+prednisone and in biopsies performed exceptionally earlier than in the 4th week (1966-1984, 476 cadaveric kidney transplantations), prevalence of obliterative arteriopathy (OA, transmural arteritis, 4/III/v3 Banff classif.) was 22.1%, with graft loss by rejection within 6 mos. in 89.4%. The aim of this analysis was to study prevalence and prognostic importance of the former and of further early vascular lesions in subjects with maintenance cyclosporin A using biopsies performed as early as in the 1st week.
