In the past, the diagnosis of chronic intestinal microsporidiosis, an important cause of diarrhea in patients with AIDS, relied upon transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In this study, the sensitivity and specificity of the light microscopic (LM) diagnosis of microsporidiosis was determined.
