A group of patients with idiopathic chondrolysis of the hip joint reported on in 1971 have been reviewed and the findings reveal no significant change in their condition. since then a further 9 patients have been encountered and the findings are included in this article. This, we feel, confirms the existence of this strange condition, which almost inevitably results in the development of a fibrous ankylosis.
