The leakage of enzymes from the myocardial cell can be used as an index of the onset and severity of tissue damage. A study has been carried out using the isolated perfused hypoxic rat heart in which the ability of various doses of isoprenaline, dobutamine, propranolol, glucose, insulin, mannitol, adenosine triphosphate and hydrocortisone to increase or decrease myocardial enzyme leakage has been evaluated.
