27 extracted human teeth were restored with cast gold overlays. During the cementation they were brunished with different finishing instruments: white-stone, Shofustone (composite finishing kit) and tungsten-carbide-finisher. The specimens were analysed with a light microscope and a scanning electron microscope. Most of the groups gave positive results. In the light microscope the white-stone showed the best, the Shofustone the second best and the tungsten-carbide-finisher the worst results.
