The article reports on experiences at the Clinic of Paediatric Surgery with 32 infants and school children with diaphragmatic hernia or rupture. The children were between 5 months and 10 years old. Newborn were excluded from the study. 27 hernias were congenital, whereas 5 were traumatically conditioned. Treatment was surgical and almost exclusively via the abdominal approach. Three children died, one of them before surgery, two from postoperative complications.
