The various forms of diaphragmatic lacunae and hernius find their explanation in the development of the diaphragm. The classification of Vos, Eijgelaar and Kuijjer should by used for typification of intraoperative findings and comparison of the therapeutic results. Own experiences are discussed concerning diagnostics, differential diagnostics and therapy.
