PIP: A double-blind study of lactation suppression using quinestrol, (2 mg or 4 mg daily), quinestrol and quingestanol acetate, and placebos, is reported. The 80 patients received the medication (or placebos) on the 2nd-28th postpartum days. Results indicate that quinestrol (either dose) gave only slight relief of breast symptoms, but the estrogen-progesterone combination gave more satisfactory results. No side effects were observed in the treated women except for a slight prolongation of portpartum amenorrhea.
