PIP: This report concerns the use of prostaglandins (PGs) for induction of therapeutic abortion in 14 patients with general medical problems complicating pregnancy or in 11 patients with local pelvic abnormalities. These 26 patients in midpregnancies were aborted using different routes of administration: 3 by intravenous infusion, 3 vaginally, 11 extraamniotically, and 9 intraamniotically. Abortion was successfully induced in all cases. In the majority of cases where a general disease complicated pregnancy, the intrauterine route of administration was selected. The results provide preliminary evidence that PGs may not have a serious impact even when given in complicated pregnancies.
