The aim of environmental hygiene is to maintain or regain healthy living conditions for man, animals and plants. An important area of environmental hygienic effort is the safeguarding of health as a state of optimal physical, psychic and social well-being. Man has a right to a healthy environment to live in in the fullest sense. It should be protected by a great number of provisions relating to health in environmental law. Meaningful provisions require careful preparation as is shown by the example of residues in foodstuffs.
