In this paper the results of the investigation of activated chromatin are considered in terms of modern ideas of molecular mechanisms of genetic activity regulation. Particular attention is given to the results obtained in the Laboratory for Functional Morphology of Chromosomes at the Institute of Molecular Biology in 1973-1984.
