Complex partial seizures, especially those with predominantly affective and sensory symptoms, can simulate numerous psychiatric disorders. Diagnostic clues include abrupt recurrences, rapid shifts of symptoms, and hallucinations in people with relatively untroubled personalities. Accurate diagnosis may result in effective treatment with anticonvulsants or discovery of tumors of the brain.
