The modern concepts for resection and stabilization of primary and metastatic spinal tumors are described in detail. The indications and operative procedures, including the current concepts of stabilization (osteosynthesis, autologous, homologous and artificial vertebral body replacement materials), are presented with special reference to applications to the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Indications for operative treatment in metastatic spine involvement are especially emphasized and documented with clinical examples. The paper includes an extensive list of recent publications.
