The effect of Fansimef, a recently registered triple combination of mefloquine, sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine (10:25:1) on human peripheral blood polymorphonuclear and mononuclear leucocyte function was studied. At clinically obtainable concentrations Fansimef had no effect on leucocyte viability, it did inhibit neutrophil chemiluminescence and it had no effect on other major functions, such as chemotaxis, NBT reduction, superoxide production, phagocytosis and the bactericidal activity of phagocytic cells.
