Although vancomycin produces excellent prophylaxis against staphylococci, the danger of hypotension, whether secondary to anaphylactoid response or myocardial depression, exists. Therefore, recommendation for the use of vancomycin before dental procedures must include the precaution of administration in a dilute solution over 30 minutes, with frequent monitoring of BP and heart rate.
