A non-absorbable cystic duct ligature may migrate into the common bile duct and act as a nidus for recurrent stone formation. Four case histories are presented and the problem is discussed. This sequel may be prevented by the use of absorbable sutures to ligate the cystic duct, thereby reducing the number of patients facing the hazards of recurrent biliary surgery.
