The reliable Rehrmann method of pedicaled buccal flaps taken from the gums and cheeks accompanied by slitting of the periosteum does not provide sufficiently long flaps for the wide junction betueen the oral cavity and the maxillary sinus which extends toward the palate. A sliding flap is recommended in such cases. This flap is formed by a triangle-shaped excision combined with cranial and caudal slitting of the periosteum. This procedure can also be used for simultaneous operations on the maxillary sinus after the bony defect has been closed with the method of bony coverage developed by the author.
