Splenectomy is found to be followed by an increase of the calcium level in blood. Administration of the spleen extract (splenin) decreases the calcium concentration in blood plasma of splenectomized animals. The normalizing splenin effect is observed in the presence of stress when the concentration of the studied trace element sharply increases as well. It is supposed that the humoral spleen factors participate in maintenance of the constant calcium level in blood preventing its elimination from tissues.
