This article reviews the possibility of preventing diarrhea in young children by knowing how the different enteropathogenic or enterotoxigenic strains of Escherichia coli cause the disease. New approaches on the prevention of diarrheal disease associated to the colonization of these bacteria are discussed based on the response evoked by some of the antigens from maternal milk fed to children with a risk of falling ill at a young age.
