Magnesium and hypomagnesemia in pediatric age. Magnesium ion is of great physiological importance as attested to by intervention in 300 enzymatic systems, function in neuromuscular excitability and its role in membrane structure. Some aspects of its physiology, hormonal regulation and hypomagnesemia symptomatology, in light of the most recent literature data, are discussed.
