The terms impairment, disability and handicap are defined, and related to hearing, and current available statistics on the number of people with hearing impairments in the United Kingdom are considered. The problems of treating people with hearing difficulties are discussed and practical solutions suggested, so that these people need not be handicapped with regard to dental care.
