The cloning of several genes coding for Plasmodium antigens has allowed to determine the nucleotide sequence of these genes and to deduce the amino acid sequence of the antigens. In this review we summarize the first results concerning the CSP of P. knowlesi and P. falciparum as well as several antigens from the asexual erythrocytic stages. These antigens show the unique feature to contain one or several antigenic determinants composed of repetitive units.
