A problem-solving approach to nursing care planning has been used effectively to achieve positive outcomes of patient care interventions. Unfortunately, many nursing care plans do not adequately document intravenous nursing care interventions. This article offers guidelines for the development of a nursing care plan that fully documents I.V. nursing interventions and addresses the potential problems associated with I.V. therapy. A sample intravenous nursing care plan is provided.
