Mature interleukin 18 (IL-18) leads to the production of interferon-?, nuclear factor kappa B, and inducible nitric oxide synthase, and we previously reported that the enhancement of IL-18 in lens of hereditary cataract model rats was involved in lens opacification. In this study, we investigated whether the expression of IL-18 relates to lens opacification in Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rats, a model of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
