From a retrospective study carried out during a 3 year period among 1601 new out patients suffering from knee pathology, our interest revolved around the 765 patients who were not arthroscopied. It appeared that, whatever the method of analysis (patients gathered according to diagnosis or to our first therapeutic attitude), a large number of patients were improved or cured without arthroscopic examination and that only 18 (4.7 per cent) required secondary arthroscopy. We, therefore, insist in the need of a good mastery of arthroscopic indication.
