Chronic allograft vasculopathy is an important cause of graft loss. Considering the inflammatory response in the development of chronic vascular lesions, therapeutic approaches to target the inflammatory process may be useful. We sought to investigate the possible protective effects on balloon catheter-induced vascular injury of thalidomide and tamoxifen, 2 drugs with powerful anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antifibrotic effects, using an animal model that mimics the morphologic features of chronic allograft vasculopathy.
