The postoperative analgesic strategy may influence the magnitude of the postoperative diaphragmatic dysfunction (PODD) induced by abdominal surgery. The purpose of this physiologic study was to evaluate the effect of continuous preperitoneal wound infusion (CPWI) of ropivacaine on PODD after open colorectal surgery.
