Median sternotomy (MS) wound infections are severe complications causing high morbidity and mortality after cardiac surgery. We aimed to develop a new Staphylococcus aureus mediastinitis and sternal osteomyelitis model in rats that can be used to evaluate the efficacy of new antimicrobial treatments.
