The role of serum pepsinogen in the diagnosis of gastric carcinoma is well established. Its role in other common upper alimentary disorders has not been widely studied. The aim of this study was to describe the effect of various gastric disorders on the levels of pepsinogen I, pepsinogen II and pepsinogen I/II ratio, with an emphasis on the diagnosis of carcinoma stomach in the South Indian population.
