The facilitation of carbon monoxide flux through a thin layer of hemoglobin solution is increased in the presence of oxygen. This is consistent with the hypothesis that the facilitation results from diffusion of carbon monoxide- hemoglobin as well as carbon monoxide, but that the overall process is partially limited by the reaction rates of carbon monoxide and hemoglobin.
