New techniques for stat-tests (e.g. "dry chemistry") are discussed with respect to their reliability, speed and economy. Based on these factors, a list of stat-tests is proposed which appears to meet the needs of the general practitioner's laboratory. The new techniques may also affect hospitals and pharmacies.
