In 2004, the cerebral state monitor, CSM, was launched as a low-cost alternative to the bispectral index, BIS, for monitoring depth of sleep during anaesthesia. We tested whether the two monitors would reflect hypnosis equally during propofol/remifentanil anaesthesia.
