Ischemic heart disease has a complex etiology apparently involving gene polymorphisms in the renin-angiotensin system. I/D ACE, A11166C AT1R and C677T MTHFR polymorphisms seem to be associated with a higher risk of myocardial infarction. The aim of this study was to establish the distribution of ACE, AT1R and MTHFR genotypes, and search for correlations with left ventricular anatomic measurements in Polish patients with a history of myocardial infarction. INVESTIGATED GROUP AND METHOD: Our study group comprised 100 patients (14 females and 86 males, aged 54.2 +/- 9.2 years) and 100 age-matched controls (10 females and 90 males, aged 52.3 +/- 10.0 years). We used PCR and PRC-RFLP to detect ACE I/D, AT1RAl 166C and MTHFR C677T gene polymorphisms, respectively.
