To investigate the difference of serum interleukin-6 level in the patients with multiple myeloma (MM) of Vighur nationality and Han nationality and its clinical significance, the activity of serum interleukin-6 was detected in 80 patients with MM (33 Vighur patients, 47 Han patients) and 30 normal subjects as control by using sandwich ELISA with double antibody. The results showed that there was significant difference in serum interleukin-6 level between Vighur patients and Han patients (P < 0.01). The serum interleukin-6 level of patients with multiple myeloma was significantly higher than that of nomal control (P < 0.01). The serum interleukin-6 level of MM patients in second and third stage were also signifivantly higher than that of patients in first stage (P < 0.05). It is concluded that there was significant difference in the serum interleukin-6 level between Vighur patients and Han patients. The serum interleukin-6 level can be considered as one of indexes to judge the patient severity and the prognosis, also as one of comprehensive multiparameters to evaluate the curative efficiency and guide the clinical application of drugs.
