To test the hypothesis that dexmedetomidine, a selective alpha-2 agonist, enhances urine flow rate and perioperative renal function, a post hoc analysis was conducted on a recently completed study of dexmedetomidine used as an adjunct to epidural analgesia after thoracotomy.
