According to the current inflammatory concepts of atherosclerosis many investigators focus on markers of inflammation, which have been studied in a variety of atherosclerotic diseases. C-reactive protein (CRP) is considered of particular importance because of its reported function as a sensitive and independent marker of vascular inflammation. Clinical utility of its measurement seems to be very promising in a prediction of future coronary events and in monitoring of coronary heart disease therapy. This article presents laboratory and clinical implications of CRP testing in atherosclerosis.
