Peripheral neuropathy that complicates HIV nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) therapy is likely caused by mitochondrial injury. Mitochondria play a central role in regulating oxidant stress. We explored the relationships between oxidant stress and NRTI-induced peripheral neuropathy.
