Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy. We investigated whether transgenic mice with moderate VEGF expression in photoreceptors (trVEGF029) developed changes similar to diabetic retinopathy and whether retinopathy progressed with time.
