Contraception compliance is still an issue among teenagers, contributing in no lesser extent to high levels of adolescent pregnancies. This article reviews some of the factors that contribute to the inconsistency of contraceptive use and higher levels of noncompliance by adolescents, among them the impact of age, knowledge, and availability of contraceptive options. Attention is also paid to cultural and behavioral aspects, including the partner's attitude, professional attitudes, the user-provider relationship, and information. Some strategies aimed at enhancing compliance are discussed.
