Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) protects hearts against ischemia by reducing infarct size. However, IPC does not preserve cardiac function, such as left ventricular peak developed pressure (LVPDP). Moreover, IPC fails to protect the post-myocardial infarct (MI) heart.
