The authors have treated 27 cases of congenital elevation of the scapula in children. 21 were operated on. They describe 3 types of the deformity which was often associated with other congenital lesions local (spine, ribs) or general. Two types of operations were performed: Schrock's procedure (partial excision of the scapula) and Woodward's procedure (dissection and re-insertion of muscles). The second one was followed by better results. Operations must be cautiously decided for they may be the cause of severe complications.
